Happy New Year, friends! I hope you enjoyed a wonderful holiday season with your families and friends. We had a great Christmas in Charlotte with my parents and oldest sister and her family and then arrived home just in time for a ton of snow and freezing temps here in Cleveland. It gave us the perfect excuse for lots of down time at home in our pajamas and now we’re slowly getting back into the swing of things.
I thought I’d kick off the year by sharing some of my resolutions for 2018…New Year, New Me! I laugh every time I hear that! It’s not so much a new me I’m looking for but trying to get back to me in 2018. After focusing so much time and energy over the past few years on mom life, I’m declaring 2018 the year of me! #entereyerollhere
So with that in mind, I’m trying to focus on the following things in the new year:
Do a Whole30 in January.
If you’ve been following me for awhile, then you know I did one last January also. I tend to feel pretty crappy in January and February as the cold weather and the holiday indulging catches up to me so I typically do some type of detox/cleanse/etc. to quiet down the inflammation in my body and get back on track with watching my diet more diligently. While I always avoid gluten and dairy, I do tend to eat more crap and drink more wine around the holiday season. This is a good way for me to tighten up on what I eat and remind me of the foods I should watch out for. I’ll be sharing my journey throughout the month over on Instagram so be sure to follow along if you’re curious to see what a Whole30 looks like.
Get up 20 minutes earlier to have a little “me time” before starting my day.
I have always wanted to be one of those people who gets up at 5:00 to work out and start my day while my family sleeps, but I’m just not that person. I’m pretty sure I’ll never be that person. I am hoping though, to get up just a little earlier to start my day with a daily devotion or reflection before I kick into mom gear. Just a little quiet time with a cup of coffee and no electronics.
I don’t know what it is, but I have not been able to get into a regular exercise routine since having my little girl. I’m active, and I workout in spurts, but I’m always just going through the motions and I’m not consistent. I’m really going to try to focus more on pushing myself during workouts and also attending classes more often. This means choosing a workout during naptime a few times a week instead of cleaning/doing laundry/wasting time on social media/etc.
So there you have it, nothing earth shattering but hopefully getting me back on track for the new year. I have other goals for the year too but I’m going to start here and see how I do. I’m hoping I’ll have a better chance for success that way.
So how about you? What are some of your goals for the new year?
