Happy Friday, friends!! Can you believe it’s May and we have about a month (or less) of school left?!! This year has flown by and we are getting ready for summer! I’m trying to find ways to schedule (but not over schedule) our days to keep my little guy busy, while respecting his baby sister’s sleep schedule. Balancing the needs of a six year old with a 16 month old is a little tricky but I think I’m figuring it out. #babysisterisgoingtohavetogiveuphermorningnap
As always, I’m linking up with Andrea, Narci, and Erika to share my favorites from the week.
On Wednesday, I blogged about how I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately, which I know we all go through from time to time. One of the things I’m trying to do on a regular basis to mentally start off my day on the right foot, is to have a little “me” time in the morning, either before my little guy gets up or after he’s on the bus and before my baby girl wakes up. It’s just 10-15 minutes and I’m reading a devotion from this book that a sweet friend gave me recently after my surgery as well as an excerpt from this.
So after blogging on Wednesday, I opened Out of the Spin Cycle, and came across this…
Dear Jen Hatmaker, you just get me. Thank you for being there when I need you. I wish we could be friends in real life and not just in my head. xoxo
And if you all haven’t read this one yet, head on over to Amazon and order it.
Is it just me or is the summer stuff so ridiculously cute this year? I spotted this tote at Target last week and just loved it. It would go with everything and it’s so perfect for summer!!
I also recently ordered this romper for my baby girl and I think it’s my favorite article of clothing that I have ever purchased for her. The criss cross back, the ruffle butt, the eyelet print…it’s perfection! Baby girl summer clothes are so fun!!! #lovemyphotobombertoo
Got ants? I have a solution for you!!
Every spring, we get those little sugar ants in our kitchen. I hate using those little black ant traps and the sprays but I haven’t had luck with peppermint oil so I did a Google search to look for other ways to get rid of them. I came across several sites that recommended using Borax so I decided to give it a try (after a few cashiers at the grocery store also recommend it). Most of the sites recommended a 3:1 ratio of sugar to Borax with a little water. I mixed 3/4 cup of powdered sugar with 1/4 cup Borax. I added a little water to make it pasty (maybe about a 1/4 cup or less). After it was all whisked together really well, I put some of the mixture in narrow tupperware lids (yogurt or sour cream lids would also work really well and I have started to save those in case I need to repeat it down the road). I placed about five of them on countertops and on the floor, safely behind furniture where I know the kids and dog wouldn’t be able to get to it. It worked great! Fair warning: it was really gross because the ants were majorly drawn to it and you can’t kill them when you see them because you want them to transmit the poison back to their nest. This means ants crawling all over your kitchen counters! #ewww
I recommend doing it at night before you go to bed so you don’t have to see it. I put them out around 8:00 PM and the ants were all over them. By morning, there were only a few and 24 hours later, they were completely gone! Now I don’t know how “natural” Borax is, but I feel better about using it than some of the alternatives. Plus, it’s cheaper!
I posted this breakfast on Instagram this week, and it was pretty popular so I thought I’d share it here. It has definitely become one of my favorite breakfasts and a great way to start the day!
Take a slice of cooked sweet potato (about 1/2″ thick–I usually just cook one in the microwave and then keep it in the fridge to use for a few days). Brown it in a medium skillet in a little EVOO over medium heat. After you flip the sweet potato, add a big handful of spinach and sautee. Season both with salt and pepper. Add an egg to the skillet, season with salt and pepper and cook however you like them (I like mine overeasy). On a plate, layer the sweet potato, spinach, egg, an individual container of Wholly Guacamole (or you could just add some sliced avocado) and top with hot sauce. It’s so good, and it’s gluten/dairy/grain free and Whole30 compliant!
That’s it for today. I’m writing this up on Thursday night and I’m headed to grab a glass of red, watch Scandal, and then try to unwind enough after the show to go to sleep!
Have a great weekend!!
