It’s Friday and man, has it been a long week. I’m
looking forward to a weekend with no plans and lots of rain, which means we’ll be hanging out inside, watching football and building Legos. I’m linking up again with Andrea, Erika, and Narci to bring you a list of my favorites from the week.
This little guy turned six on Sunday and he celebrated in style at Chuck E. Cheese. I must admit, it was definitely not my first choice for the party location, but it actually turned out great and he and his buddies had a blast! It was also kind of fun because I remember having a birthday party there when I was little.
We have had the most beautiful weather this fall and have been spending our afternoons after school at the park, which is a definite favorite for all of us. The changing leaves against the blue sky has been spectacular! Unfortunately, the rain and cooler weather has hit so I think our park days are very limited now.
So funny story…I caught the Momfessionals post on Instagram about looking for creative ways to learn sight words and thought, “Why is she worrying about sight words? Must be a teacher thing”. Two days later, my little guy brought home a list of words to work on this week and it’s going to be part of his reading homework each night. #firsttimerhere
After reading her blog post (here) about it, I decided to try a couple of the ideas. I initially stuck the words up on a wall and let him shoot them with a Nerf gun while shouting out the words. This was way too distracting for him though and he was focused more on reloading his darts than on the words. Then, I put them on the floor and had him jump on them as he said the words. After he got better with it, I started to time him with a stopwatch, which he loved! He was really motivated to beat his time each try. I’m not a big fan of kindergarten homework so I like the idea of trying to make it a little more fun for him.
This picture doesn’t do it justice but we had a really yummy dinner last night: Pasta with Butternut Sauce, Spicy Sausage and Baby Spinach by Skinnytaste. I easily modified it by using Earth Balance instead of butter and gluten free pasta. I also omitted the Parmesan from mine, and just sprinkled it on top for the rest of family. Everyone ate it and my kiddo didn’t make any complaints about the butternut squash sauce.
That’s it for today. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!!
