You guys, I had a date with the cutest boy yesterday. We went to church, went out to lunch, and then went for a hike, just the two of us. He even wanted to hold my hand on our walk. #allthehearteyes
I forget sometimes how nice it is to spend time with your kids individually and how much everyone needs it. I have to be honest, my little guy and I have been struggling lately. We’re both stir crazy from all of the rain, and have a major case of spring fever. He’s been teasing his baby sister more than usual and we’ve just been butting heads. My goal over the weekend was to carve out some time to get him out for some fresh air and exercise and it ended up being a full day together, just the two of us. He had my full, undivided attention. We laughed, we talked and I spoiled him a bit. #fantawithhislunch #gettingwildandcrazyoverhere
I’m a big believer in the Five Love Languages and while I wouldn’t say that quality time is at the top of his list, it’s definitely up there. We don’t even have to do anything particularly special, he’s just generally happy to have the individual attention.
I’ve really been trying to make an effort during lent to be more present with my kids: play more, engage more, and stay off of social media from 8-8. Staying at home with them is something I treasure, but it’s also a lot and I often find myself searching for ways to “escape”. This mom gig isn’t easy and in the hustle and bustle of taking care of the family, it’s so important to also find the time to just enjoy being together. We did a lot of that this weekend, both as a family and individually, and I think it filled all of us up.
And let’s be honest, spending that time together outside while getting some fresh air is good for everyone!
I hope you also had a great weekend!
