Thank you for the sweet messages and comments about losing our dog over the weekend, I really appreciate it. I’ll write a little more about it on Wednesday, not the details of the loss because I just can’t bare to do that, but I do want to share a few tips that I did to help my 7 year old with the loss which I think would be helpful to pass along.
For today, I want to think about the holidays and share my favorite holiday cocktail with you. I’ve shared this on the blog before but I needed a new pic (the old one wasn’t even in a copper mug!) and I’ve tweaked it a bit. I absolutely love this drink for this time of year. It’s so festive and the flavors are spot on to serve along with your holiday feasts!
Tito’s Vodka is a must for me, because it’s gluten free and just plain good. I also recommend using 100% cranberry juice in this recipe. I have tried a blend before and it ended up tasting like grape juice, which is not what you’re going for here. My preferred brand of ginger beer has also switched from Fever Tree to Q because I think it’s a little less sweet, but use whatever brand you prefer. The combination of the tartness from the cranberry with the citrus from the lime and the spice from the ginger are just perfect together! It would also be really pretty garnished with a sprig of rosemary if you’re into that kind of thing but I prefer to keep my herbs in my food and not in my cocktails.
1 1/2 to 2 shots, Tito’s Vodka (depending on how strong you like it)
1/2 shot, cranberry juice
juice of 1/4 lime
Q Ginger Beer (or the ginger beer of your choice)
frozen cranberries for garnish
Fill copper mug with ice. Add vodka, cranberry juice and lime juice (along with the wedge). Top with ginger beer until glass is full. Stir together and garnish with frozen cranberries.
And if you’re looking for some help with cooking a gluten/dairy free Thanksgiving dinner, check out my tips here. After several tries, I finally have it down and don’t even miss the gluten and dairy! #mydressingtastesjustlikemymoms
