School starts three weeks from today, which is crazy!! I’m almost ready for it though. Almost. Our activities are over, the kids may or may not be driving me more crazy every day, and I’m ready to get back on a schedule. I really tried to keep this summer pretty low key and tried to find the balance between some activities to keep my little guy busy but not too many because it’s summer and I wanted all of us to have some time to decompress.
We took an early summer trip to the beach,
we spent an insane amount of time at the pool,
We made some new friends, had VBS, saw a lot of fireworks and hit up some Cleveland spots like the Science Center, Voinovich Park, Hidden Lake, Lake Farmpark and Nature Play at Penitentiary Glen. Let’s also not forget the epic U2 concert!
And now it’s August, the time when I start feeling the pressure to squeeze in all the things before summer is over. We haven’t gone camping. We haven’t gone to a baseball game. We have only had a couple of fires out back. We have only gone fishing a couple of times. We haven’t gone to the zoo. We haven’t finished the to do list of jobs I wanted to complete this summer. The list goes on and on and I’m trying to find a way to let go of it because despite the list of what we haven’t done, this has been the very best summer!! It’s been such a great combination of family time, time with mom friends, and individual time with each kiddo. I remember at the end of summer last year feeling like that was the best summer I would probably have with my kids because I wasn’t working and had the opportunity to spend the whole summer with them. I have realized though that each summer just gets better and better because of the memories we’re making together.
This was the first summer that my little guy could stay up later and sleep in later, which meant more individual time with him after his baby sister went to bed. This summer was also less scheduled and more spontaneous and some of the best times we had were totally spur of the moment. It meant lots of last minute trips to the pool, and the three of us golfing as a family, which is something I never expected. I can’t wait until my baby girl is old enough to join in on more!
So now it’s August, which means squeezing in as much as we can while working to get us all back to somewhat of a routine. #nomoresleepingineverymorning
As sad as I am to see summer winding down, I’m also okay with it because before I know it I’ll be putting pumpkins out everywhere!!
